710 Grand Avenue

Location: Chicago, IL

Architect: Brininstool + Lynch | Chicago, IL

General Contractor ARCO/Murray | Downers Grove, IL

Fabricator: Centerline Architectural Supply

Cladding: Extruded Concrete 'Oko' Skin | 25,000 sq. ft.

Built on a triangular lot, 710 W. Grand breaks away from the traditional rectangular development that Chicago's grid often dictates. The building responds through a bend, resulting in two rectangular elements joined at a 30-degree angle. Architects sought the material expertise of Hughes Group to supply a façade that would visually complement the unique structure. Hughes Group supplied white terracotta ‘Oko’ Skin by Rieder to wrap the sides of the building and the shifted openings. The two ends, one of which is the street front, are contrasted by glass window walls with varied metal finishes. Residents have access to multiple forms of public transportation just steps away. In line with the firms' sustainable principles, this project has Green Globe certification.

Centerline Fabrication

Brininstool + Lynch sought the help of Centerline to manage the complex and large-scale project. Centerline warehoused, fabricated, and consulted on the installation of the extruded concrete ‘Oko’ skin by Reider. Additionally, all substrate and engineering services were also provided by Centerline, giving the architects one turnkey solution for the entire 25,000 sq. ft. building envelope.
