Over 12,000 sq. ft. of 9Wood interior wood panels were installed on the exterior and interior of the new Plant Science Center at the Chicago Botanic Gardens in Glenco, IL.

Architects brought on Hughes Group to provide a solution to the architectural vision to create a continuous appearance for the building’s wood ceiling, both in the conditioned main public space and on the exterior soffits of the building.

Hughes Group specified 9Wood for the project, citing its ability to provide a continuous look by offering products for both the interior and the exterior, on both sides of the clerestory glass, without seeing a variance in the products—a key in having the outdoors "coming in" at the ceiling level.

The Chicago Botanic Garden earned a Gold LEED rating from the U.S. Green Building Council for the Daniel F. and Ada L. Rice Plant Conservation Science Center. The Plant Science Center received points in six categories including sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, material and resources, indoor environmental quality, and innovation and design process.
